The Deep Sleep Struggle: Waking Up Thinking You're Going Up
You know when you're in that really deep sleep, the kind that feels like you're floating in space or drifting away into another dimension? Yeah, that sleep where you can’t even remember if you closed your eyes or if you’re still dreaming. And then—bam! You wake up suddenly, heart racing, thinking you're about to go up (and I don't mean in a good way). It’s like a rush of panic hits you, but then you realize, wait, that’s just deep sleep playing tricks on you.
Let me explain: this happens to me all the time. I’ll be in the middle of a nap, my head so heavy, and I just drift off into what feels like a different world. Then out of nowhere, I wake up, thinking, “Did I mess up something? Did I forget to do something important? Are the kids alright? Did they mess up the house?”
Here's what usually happens: I get home from school, totally wiped out. Change into something comfy, eat something, and then crash into bed. After my parents head off to work, I make sure my siblings are taken care of—fed, entertained, you know, the usual. But, despite all that, when I lie down to rest, I still can’t fully relax. I’m constantly thinking about the kids—whether they’re causing chaos in the house or making a mess, like, I have to be a security guard and watch them all day until they're in bed. It's exhausting.
And then, I get into this deep sleep. But just when I’m starting to feel like I’m in a different world, I wake up feeling like I missed something—like I missed a deadline, or even worse, like I was supposed to be somewhere but ended up in the wrong place. It’s this weird, sudden feeling of "uh-oh, what did I forget?" But nope, it’s just that deep sleep playing with my head.
If you’ve ever experienced this, you get me. You wake up with that same feeling of dread, thinking you’ve missed something, but all you’ve missed is that deep nap, and your brain just decided to take you on a little emotional rollercoaster.
